Massage Therapy Certification

Lexington Healing Arts Academy provides a 700 Hour Massage Therapy certificate program consisting of 592 classroom hours and 108 hours in our Student Intern Clinic. The program provides a thorough and broad-based education in massage therapy using a variety of instructional methods including lecture, demonstrations, audio-visuals and hands on practice. Students can expect to graduate from the program in a reasonable amount of time, 40 to 64 weeks, depending upon the day or evening program. Day classes are Monday-Friday 9:30 AM to 1:30 PM and night classes are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 6:00-10:00 PM.

Completion of this program will prepare students to take the NCBTMB or MBLEx exam required for state licensure and begin a career in Massage Therapy.

LHAA graduates have established a strong success rate in passing the National Certification exam consistently exceeding the national average pass rate. Our students averaged a 87% pass rate 2009-2010. LHAA graduates also have an excellent record finding jobs with 80% documented job placement for the year ending 2008, 82% for 2009, and 80% for 2010. Our student retention rate remains high each year with 89%, 90% and 82% from 2007-2010.

The objectives for the program are:

Development of basic competency in the fundamentals of therapeutic massage, chair massage, pregnancy massage, hydrotherapy, energy work and clinical massage techniques.
Establish a solid foundation in the applied sciences: anatomy, physiology, pathology and kinesiology.
Gain an understanding of holistic wellness in mind/body/spirit and establish the practice of personal/professional development skills.
Development and integration of professional ethics and personal relationship skills such as boundary setting, empathy, and effective communication.
Gain insight into career goals and develop tools and skills that support a smooth transition into a professional massage career in a broad array of employment settings.
Exhibit and practice confidence, competence, and professionalism during the clinical internship.
