Jessica Newton, a student of Lexington Healing Arts Academy, has been awarded a $5,000 scholarship from the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA), an organization representing 75,000+ massage therapists and hundreds of massage schools.

“We are very happy and proud of Jessica,” said Bill Booker, Executive Director of Lexington Healing Arts Academy.

Jessica plans to use her scholarship to continue her massage therapy training and upon graduation and licensing, she intends to continue her education in hospital-based massage therapy and light-touch modalities. Jessica says she also wants to volunteer her time and skills to provide therapeutic massage to the military community. Her ultimate goal is to become involved in education and research for massage as part of integrative care for chronic pain and trauma-related disorders.

The 2018 Bob King $5,000 AMTA Massage Therapy Student Scholarship is an annual scholarship that rewards massage school students who strive for excellence and are devoted to the profession.

Not only was 2018 a great year for Jessica, but one of our instructors also received national recognition last year. Bobbi Junod, a massage therapy teacher with LHAA, was the recipient of the 2018 Jerome Perlinski Teacher of the Year Award. You can read our blog post on her achievement here.
