Workout partner

It’s not uncommon for anyone who works out on a regular basis to become disenchanted with their results or find themselves in a fitness routine rut. There are a multitude of things you can do to improve your workout performance results like switching from weights to a cardio program, increasing your carb intake, adding more high-intensity intervals, or using free weights instead of machines. All of these strategies can make a positive impact on your results. But you might also want to consider working out with a partner.

Benefits of a Workout Partner

A study published in the Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise Journal examined the influence of head-to-head competition on performance, pacing strategy, and bioenergetics among 14 cyclists who trained with and without a partner. The results show that when exercising with a partner, cyclists peddled almost twice as long as working out alone. Working out with someone can help motivate you to increase your performance and might even make your workout seem less demanding—maybe even fun.

However, working out with the right buddy is key to making you exercise longer, harder, and smarter. If you’re best friend isn’t as motivated as you are, has different goals, and has a different schedule, you won’t get the experience or the results you’re looking for. Sometimes the best person to help you get where you want to be physically is a personal trainer. Whether they are working out with you, or spotting and instructing you, a personal trainer could be the best person to help you get the most out of your workout for these reasons and more:

  • They push you to your limits.
  • They can help you with form.
  • They can show you new routines.
  • They can help you overcome plateaus.
  • They can create a workout for your individual goals.

You don’t have to be a seasoned athlete to get the full advantages of a personal trainer. Personal training is ideal for everyone, even those new to exercise. Individuals recovering from an illness or injury, or who are living with a medical condition can also benefit from a personal trainer.
